It seems to me that Rebecca Fernandez (Speak with care, letter April 11) wants it both ways. Shes all for free speech, but if she thinks its hateful, ill-informed, prejudiced or homophobic it should be kept to yourself. Thus, by extension, if Ms. Fernandezs opinion falls into one of those categories (in my opinion), she should keep it to herself.
I fail to see how this allows free speech for anyone. If you dont like what is being said, feel free to voice your opinion, but you dont have the right to try to suppress the opposing opinion, which was the point Mr. Hanson was trying to make. No one is forcing you to listen; you are free to walk away, change the channel or read another commentators article. That is what freedom is all about.
