Unclear design

AtascaderoApril 15, 2014

The Central Coast Living section April 13 featured selected poems to celebrate National Poetry Month. I don’t know any of the featured poets, I don’t write poetry and I don’t know anything about poetry.

However, I know something about graphic design, having worked as a graphic designer for print for 25-plus years. I cannot believe that someone at The Tribune made the decision to lay these carefully crafted wordworks over photographed backgrounds of sand.

The intent was clever, but the actual result made the poetry difficult to see, let alone read and enjoy. Good graphic design supports and even clarifies the message. The work of these poets deserved better treatment.

The Tribune is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
