Dancing event a success

Event Coordinator, Dancing with our StarsApril 14, 2014

Atascadero Friends of the Library applauds everyone who made our fifth annual Atascadero: Dancing with Our Stars, an enormous success.

The event raised more than $81,000 for the new library and crowned Rolfe Nelson champion. His routine was choreographed by Leigh Ormonde and Chris Harmon, who joined Rolfe in his performance.

In second place were Mike and Peggy Zappas performing a Greek dance, and in third place was John Donovan performing a polka-foxtrot-swing medley with instructor Sharon Davis.

“People’s Choice” at the event was awarded to Atascadero Police Chief Jerel Haley and Cammie Velci who brought down the house with their hula dance.

All community stars were champions for the new library — Angela Cisneros, Colonel Bill Hatch, Heather Moreno and Nicholas Mattson. This wonderful program exists because our choreographers donate their time and talents: Dan and Sharon Davis, Linda Drake, Chris Harmon, Larraine McBride, Leigh Ormonde, Eddie Rodriguez, Frank Sanchez, Cammie Velci, Rodney Ware and Kari Wastun.

Many thanks to sponsors: B Loved, Opolo Vineyards, Justin Vineyards, PG&E, Greg Malik Real Estate, Air Rite, Kathy Peterson, Waste Management and Atascadero News.
