A need for full team

Volunteer Chaplain, Five Cities Fire AuthorityApril 10, 2014

As volunteer chaplain with the fire department and now Five Cities Fire Authority for the past 24 years, I have seen many changes and growing pains.

Now, more than ever, I believe the residents are very well served by the cooperative and professional responders of the three stations dedicated to one cause — fast and effective care for life and property. Because of the size of our growing communities, as well as training and safety requirements, we just can’t go back to the good old days.

When I am on scene for medical calls, I see the need for the full team that the SAFER grant provided. When I was on scene at a recent major house fire, I witnessed the wisdom of keeping our full staffing that the SAFER grant provided, and hope that the property assessment will continue.

Under very challenging conditions, we witnessed the value of trained professionals who worked efficiently and as a team. We needed everyone that day. I hate to think what that scene would have been like without these six firefighters. There will always be reasons to object, but my vote is for your life and property and mine. Vote yes.
