The collected food will be donated to the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County. Food for Fines does not apply to fees for lost or damaged library materials .

The San Miguel Chamber of Commerce is expanding efforts to beautify the downtown.

Landscaping and sidewalks were installed by the county using funding from a grant, but the community is responsible for maintenance and upkeep.

To raise funds, the chamber has created the Downtown Landscape Maintenance and Bench Fund and an Adopt a Bench fund. Benches may be adopted by individuals or businesses and dedicated as they wish.

If you would like to be part of the effort, talk to Mike Sanders at the Mercantile or email him at, or email

Recently, the San Miguel Garbage Co. provided garbage cans for pedestrians. The company’s help is greatly appreciated.
