Prep Roundup: Paso Robles wins 15-10 baseball slugfest against Atascadero

In PAC 7 softball, Atascadero remains undefeated in league play with rout of Pioneer Valley

Bailey Gaither hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning Wednesday, helping to lift the Paso Robles High baseball team to a 15-10 victory at Atascadero.


Gaither finished with four hits and four RBI for the Bearcats (10-1-2, 6-1-1 PAC 7), and Christian Erickson was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs.


Tyler Moore hit a home run to drive in three for the Greyhounds (2-11, 0-8 PAC 7), and Holden Nix scored three runs.


Pioneer Valley 2, San Luis Obispo 1, 9 innings


Jeremy Jess pitched a complete game for the Tigers in their road loss. Jess gave up two runs on five hits and struck out eight.


Strong defense kept San Luis Obispo (2-8, 1-4 PAC 7) in the game, highlighted by a bases-loaded double play in the bottom of the seventh inning. Brandon Mallory fielded the ball for the Tigers and stepped on second before turning it to Matt Mundorf, sending the game into extra innings.


Zach Fedrick drove in Thomas Orradre for San Luis Obispo’s run.


SOFTBALL


Atascadero 9, Pioneer Valley 1


Freshman Sally Bowles threw all seven innings for Atascadero (17-3-1, 5-0 PAC 7), striking out five, and was 2 for 4 with two triples and three RBI.


Alex Newsom drove in two runs for the Greyhounds on two hits, and Cheyenne Hufstetler was 2 for 3 with an RBI.


BOYS GOLF


Paso Robles 422, Orcutt Academy 605


Medalist Greg Potruch shot a 5-over 77 for the Bearcats at Hunter Ranch Golf Course.


Teammate Bailey Flickinger was second at 84, and three Paso Robles golfers shot 87.
