College Roundup: Baseball America has Cal Poly ranked No. 4

Cal Poly’s baseball team moved to as high as No. 4 in major national polls Monday, including a ranking of No. 4 from Baseball America.

The Mustangs clinched a Big West Conference series, 2-1, with a 1-0 home win over rival UC Santa Barbara on Sunday.

Cal Poly also is ranked No. 4 by Perfect Game, while the Collegiate Baseball and USA Today/ESPN polls have the Mustangs at No. 6.

Mustangs pitcher Bloomquist honored

Cal Poly sophomore right-hander Casey Bloomquist earned Big West Pitcher of the Week after throwing 7 2⁄3 scoreless innings Sunday against UCSB.

Bloomquist is 7-0 with a 1.25 ERA.

Cal Poly men’s tennis team falls, 4-3

Cal Poly’s men’s tennis team scored two quick points before San Francisco rallied for a 4-3 home win.

On doubles courts, Cal Poly’s Jurgen De Jager and Ben Donovan won 8-2 before teammates Devin Barber and Corey Pang won 8-4 to clinch the doubles point.

In singles, Cal Poly’s Matt Thomson swept 6-2, 6-2 before Pang won 2-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3.

Cal Poly fell to 7-11 overall.

Mustangs women’s golfers in hunt

Cal Poly has two women’s golfers in the top 15 of The Gold Rush at Yorba Linda Country Club as Taylor Yoshitake is tied for 10th place (151) and Jamie Corr is tied for 13th (152).

The individual leader is Alice Kim of Gonzaga with a 4-under 140. The Mustangs carded a total of 625, putting them in seventh place. Gonzaga leads with a 592.
