Prep Roundup: Paso Robles defeats St. Joseph 5-4 in PAC 7 baseball

Taylor Holden and Bailey Gaither led Paso Robles High’s baseball team to a 5-4 win over St. Joseph, combining to score four runs and on five of the Bearcats’ seven hits Saturday.

The Bearcats’ (8-1-2, 4-1-1 PAC 7) scored twice in the first inning as Gaither came home on a fielder’s choice and Holden scored on a double steal.

Paso Robles’ Nolan Binkele pitched four innings, giving up an unearned run and striking out four. Holden was 3 for 3 with an RBI, while Gaither was 2 for 3 with an RBI.


Templeton 7, San Luis Obispo 5; San Luis Obispo 4, Templeton 2

Ashley Stevens had seven strikeouts and tripled for the Eagles (5-9, 1-3 LPL) in the first game. Templeton’s Corinne Barto went 2 for 4 and had two RBI. Makayla Zundel was 2 for 2 with an RBI and a double. Ashley Stevens was 2 for 4 with a triple and Kaitlin Doty had two RBI.

For San Luis Obispo (5-2, 0-2 PAC 7) in the first game, Hanna Murphy tripled with an RBI. Samantha Good struck out six and went 3 for 3 at the plate with three RBI.

San Luis Obispo’s Hanna Gibbs struck out eight and went 2 for 3. Alorah Towne finished the game 2 for 3 with three RBI. For Templeton, Mikayla Wells went 2 for 3, and Makayla Zundel doubled.

Schurr 6, Arroyo Grande 1

Samantha Oliver scored the only run for the Eagles (5-7, 1-3) as she got on base on a hit by pitch and then was doubled home by Natilee Parrish. Parrish was 2 for 3.


Clovis West Invitational

Arroyo Grande and Paso Robles’ girls came in seventh and ninth out of 41 teams, respectively, at the Clovis West Invitational. The 200-yard medley team for Arroyo Grande finished third and dropped their overall time by three seconds in 1 minute, 55.30, by Corryn Haynes, Sarah Parson, Paige Leonard and Hanna Parson.

The 200 freestyle relay team dropped 3 seconds from its previous time and placed third in 1:48.84 by Parson, Parson, Haynes, and Mikayla Pock. Senior Haynes finished second in both the 200 individual medley in 2:10.63 and the 100 backstroke in 59.37 for Arroyo Grande. Amanda Oliver finished second in the 500 freestyle in 5:17.03 for Paso Robles.

Mission Viejo Invitational

The Arroyo Grande boys finished first out of 17 teams at the Mission Viejo Invitational. Zach Stevens won the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.03 seconds and placed sixth in the 200 individual medley in 1:58.71. Trent Schachter placed sixth in the 200 freestyle in 1:49.99.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Stevens, David Malouf, Chris Dichmann and Hissam El-Effendi finished fifth in 3:19.74. Malouf placed ninth in the 100 butterfly in 54.93.
