Prep Roundup: San Luis Obispo baseball falls in extra innings to Righetti

The San Luis Obispo High baseball team rallied to force extra innings, but Righetti scored six runs in the top of the eighth inning to top the Tigers 8-2.

Michael Esralle held the Warriors to just two hits and two runs in 7 2⁄3 innings, but walked a pair of batters with two outs in the eighth. 

Reliever Brooks Hollister also struggled to find the strike zone, walking three more batters after an infield single to put Righetti up 5-2. The next batter, Matt Silveira, blew the game open with a bases-clearing double to left field for Righetti (6-4, 3-2 PAC 7).

The Tigers (1-6, 0-2) scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Jeremy Jess and a wild pitch that scored Dash Foster. 

Esralle and Thomas Orradre both singled twice for San Luis Obispo.

St. Joseph 4, Paso Robles 1

The Bearcats gave up all four runs in the third inning. Christian Erickson was 2 for 3 with an RBI for Paso Robles.

BOYS GOLF

PAC 7 Tournament 

San Luis Obispo’s Kush Sikand placed first with a 1-under 71, and the Tigers finished one point behind first-place Righetti at the Chalk Mountain Golf Club. 

Arroyo Grande finished third with a score of 413, Atascadero fourth at 417 and Paso Robles fifth at 419. 

Jack Avrit shot a 76 for the Eagles. Brandon Erickson and Donnie Hedrick both shot 79 for the Greyhounds, and Cody Autry led the Bearcats with an 80.

Los Padres League Tournament

Morro Bay’s Luca Bruno shot a 6-over 77 at the Morro Bay Golf Course and shared the individual medalist with Cabrillo’s Thomas Requejo. 

Morro Bay finished fifth (483) in the team race, which was won by Santa Ynez (418).

TRACK AND FIELD

Boys: Arroyo Grande 83, Paso Robles 53; Girls: Arroyo Grande 100, Paso Robles 36

Greg Nester finished first for the Eagles boys (4-1 PAC 7) in the 300-meter hurdles (44.62 seconds) and the 110 hurdles (17.33), and teammate Rosco Lucero won the 800 in 2:05.22. 

Matthew Mihelic won the 100 and 200 in 11.65 and 23.49, respectfully, for the Bearcats (2-1-1). Jonah Cole won the discus with a throw of 163 feet, 3 inches.

For the Eagles girls (5-0 PAC 7), Talley Hill won the 1,600 in 5:13.67, and Elizabeth Heyde won the 800 in 2:25. 

Annie Meeder won the 3,200 in 11:47 and Sammie Anderson won the 100 in 12.85 for Paso Robles (3-1).

Boys: San Luis Obispo 94, Pioneer Valley 42; Girls: San Luis Obispo 106, Pioneer Valley 25

William Ernst won the boys 800 meters in 2 minutes, 2 seconds for San Luis Obispo (4-0-1 PAC 7).

Elizabeth Wiley led the Tigers girls (2-3 PAC 7), winning the pole vault (9-0), 300 hurdles (51.1), 100 hurdles (17.43) and the long jump (16-9). 

Boys: Atascadero 68.5, St. Joseph 67.5; Girls: St. Joseph 86, Atascadero 43

Ethan Hicks won the boys shot put (46-6) and the discus (122-0) for the Greyhounds (1-3 PAC 7).

Angelica Cusworth won the 400 meter in 1:02.3, and the 300 hurdles (45.5) for the Atascadero girls (0-4 PAC 7).

Boys: Morro Bay 66, Santa Maria 56; Girls: Morro Bay 90, Santa Maria 24

Austin Lay led the Pirates (1-2 Los Padres League), winning the boys 3,200 10:28.4 and the high jump at 5-6. 

Sierra Emrick won the pole vault (11-0) for the the Morro Bay girls (1-2 LPL). Hannah Wiese won the 100 (13.37).

BOYS TENNIS

San Luis Obispo 14, Righetti 4

Mason Hansen won all of his singles sets 6-0 for the Tigers (14-1, 6-0 PAC 7). Cameron Dong won 7-5, 6-2, 6-2. 

In doubles, Noah Cleere and Alex Dill swept 6-0, 6-0, 6-2, and Josh Milla and Luke Olson won 6-1, 6-0, 6-2. 

Atascadero 16, Pioneer Valley 2

Yuma Olsen and Luke Reilly didn’t drop a game in their doubles sets for the Greyhounds (10-3, 3-2 PAC 7). 

Brendan Adams and Jacob Hass both swept their three sets for Atascadero.

Paso Robles 14, St. Joseph 4

The Bearcats’ (6-3, 2-3 PAC 7) Mayer Pohlad swept his singles sets (6-2, 6-4, 

6-2) as well as the doubles pairing of Ryan Shepard and Warren Willis (6-3, 6-0, 6-0).

Cabrillo 11, Morro Bay 7

Andrew Stella swept 6-1, 7-5, 6-2 for the Pirates (3-4, 0-2 LPL) in singles. 

Marcel Scheiwiller won two of his three sets.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

San Luis Obispo 3, Pioneer Valley 1

John Duffy had 13 kills as the Tigers won 25-16, 22-25, 25-16, 25-15. 

San Luis Obispo’s (10-4, 2-1 PAC 7). Shea McSorley had 11 kills while Dillon Walter had 10. Rennie Heza had 35 assists.

Arroyo Grande 3, St. Joseph 0

The Eagles (12-6, 3-0 PAC 7) won 25-10, 25-16, 25-13. 

Cameron Arnet finished with 10 kills, and Brett Macdonald had 10 digs. Andrew Midyett had nine kills and four aces, and Jack Empy finished with 36 assists and five kills. 

Righetti 3, Paso Robles 0

The Bearcats (1-7) fell 23-25, 13-25, 17-25.

Santa Ynez 3, Morro Bay 0

Morro Bay (6-4, 2-2 LPL) fell 18-25, 17-25, 21-25. 

For the Pirates, Cody Cohen had nine kills and three digs, Edwerd Guerrero had 20 assists, Philip Nordus had 11 digs, and Xavier Alfaro had nine kills

Santa Maria 3, Nipomo 0

The Titans lost 25-18, 25-8, 25-3.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

Boys: San Luis Obispo 283, Pioneer Valley 35

Tyler Andrew won the 100-yard backstroke in 57.83 seconds and the 100 butterfly in 57.37 for the Tigers (4-2, 3-2 PAC 7). 

Tyler Gater won the 200 individual medley in 2:19.94 and the 500 freestyle in 5:29.23. Evan Holtz won the 50 freestyle in 24.68 and the 100 freestyle in 52.74. 

SOFTBALL

Lompoc 4, Templeton 3, 8 innings

Ashley Stevens put the Eagles ahead 3-2 with an RBI double in the top of the fifth inning, but Lompoc hit a tying home run in the fifth and scored again in the eighth to defeat Templeton (4-8, 1-3 LPL). 

Kiana Alba had two RBI, and Corinne Barto had eight strikeouts in the circle for the Eagles.
