With less than six weeks to go before thousands of people descend on Cambria in person and millions more tune in on television and on the web, a meeting to discuss preparations for the Amgen Tour of California is set for next week.

The fourth stage of the Tour de France-style professional bicycle race ends in Cambria on May 14.

“We are in the process of finalizing many of our plans for hosting the 16 international teams,” Guy Savage, assistant county administrative officer and cochairman of the local organizing effort, said Wednesday, April 2.

About 4,000 to 5,000 are expected to stop over for the finish, which will include a number of events in addition to the finish near the Veterans Memorial Building.

The meeting will include updates on road closures, a free shuttle service to get people from parking spots to the finish line, and volunteer opportunities.

The race resumes May 15, starting from Pismo Beach.

The Cambria meeting starts at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at the Veterans Memorial Building, 1000 Main St.
