Recent rainfall helps, but Cambria is still on track for both its lowest rainfall in local district records and, even more so, from climbing out of the hole left by the lowest three-year cumulative total on record.
Through Monday, Cambria had totaled 7.3 inches for the current rain year, well below the 9.52 inches recorded in 2006-07, the previous lowest year in Cambria Community Services District records dating back to 1974, prior to the district’s founding in 1976.
In average years, another 2 inches of rain would fall in the spring months, April through June, which would possibly pull the district out of a record-low year, but recent years have been anything but average.
The district three-year total of 32.25 for 2012-2014, again through March 31 of this year, is well below the previous three-year record low mark of 37.88 inches in 2007-09.
The third lowest total was in the notorious drought years of 1989-91, when a total of 39 inches of rain fell.
