Climate report

AtascaderoApril 3, 2014

In case you had any lingering doubts about how man-made sources of CO2 are contributing to global warming, you might want to check out the latest report from The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The report, issued March 31, is front-page news in most major media outlets. According to The New York Times, “The report ... concluded that ice caps are melting, sea ice in the Arctic is collapsing, water supplies are coming under stress, heat waves and heavy rains are intensifying, coral reefs are dying and fish and many other creatures are migrating toward the poles or in some cases going extinct.”

Though we have seen some promising new trends with the Obama administration’s EPA regulating coal-fired power plants, there is still much resistance to passing strong legislation in Congress to mitigate the effects of climate change.

The biggest polluters, backed by billionaires like the Koch brothers, are actively promoting a disinformation campaign to challenge the warnings issued by the scientific community on the dangers of our present levels of CO2 pollution. We must see the present situation as a climate emergency, which requires strong action now. The fate of all life on Earth is in our hands.
