Diablo Canyon emergency sirens will undergo routine testing this week

newsroom@thetribunenews.comMarch 29, 2014

Residents will hear a test of the Early Warning System sirens in the Diablo Canyon Emergency Planning Zone on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The 131 sirens cover an area extending from Cayucos south to San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, Los Osos, Avila Beach, the Five Cities area, and the Nipoma Mesa. Each siren will be tested for several seconds using a low-volume growl. Officials remind the public that this is only a test and no action is required.

The siren system was installed to meet operating requirements for the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant, but can be used for any emergency. For information, call the County Office of Emergency Services at 805-781-5011.
