Injured hiker airlifted from Poly Canyon

Fire crews and a California Highway Patrol helicopter rescued a male hiker with a broken leg from a trail in Poly Canyon Friday afternoon.

Cal Fire received a report of a hiker suffering an injury and being unable to leave the trail at about 5 p.m. Friday.

Cal Fire and San Luis Obispo Fire Department emergency crews responded, but initially were unable to find the victim. They requested the assistance of the California Highway Patrol to survey the area with a helicopter.

The helicopter was able to locate the hiker near the trail and transport him to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment by 6:30 p.m. No other details were immediately available Friday.
