A free event will be held Saturday for people who want help signing up for Medi-Cal or health insurance through Covered California.

The health-care enrollment fair will be from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Atascadero Library, 6850 Morro Road. The event is sponsored by SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West, a 150,000-member union of health-care workers in California.

The deadline to sign up for health insurance to avoid paying a fine is Monday. People who qualify for Medi-Cal can sign up for that program at any time.

Anyone wanting to sign up for insurance should bring a photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport, proof of address such as postmarked mail, proof of income such as tax returns or pay stubs, proof of citizenship or permanent resident card. Enrollees must provide their birth date, Social Security number and home zip code to sign up.
