More than 100 athletes from 12 western university teams are in San Luis Obispo this week for the 75th Annual Association of Western Forestry Clubs’ Logging Sports Conclave.

The annual event, this year hosted by Cal Poly’s forestry club, features competitions in ax throwing, log rolling, boom running, pole climbing and power sawing, said Haley Marconett, communications director for the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences.

Competition began Wednesday with technical, throwing and water events, as well as pole climbing. It will continue Thursday and Friday with events in chopping, buck sawing and choker racing taking place in the Nelson Learning Center on campus at 7:30 a.m.

The event is open to the public.
