Town hall scheduled for Poly dorm plans

The city of San Luis Obispo is hosting a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday to hear public comment on a Cal Poly student housing project planned for Grand Avenue. The meeting will be held at the Ludwick Community Center, 864 Santa Rosa St.

Cal Poly is proposing to build a freshman housing complex consisting of seven four- to five-story dorms for 1,475 beds, as well as 300 to 500 parking spaces, on 12 acres.

The land is now used for parking and provides 1,324 spaces.

Cal Poly is recirculating a draft environmental impact report for the project, which gives the city another opportunity to provide additional comments on the potential impacts of the housing complex.

The City Council agreed to host the town hall meeting after being petitioned by concerned community members at multiple City Council meetings.

The Tribune is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news.
