Fundraiser set to help with medical costs for Cambria woman fighting cancer

For a couple of decades, Angelina “Angie” Melendrez has been known for her hard work, sweet smile, friendly attitude and helpful service at Cambria restaurants. Now customers, friends and strangers are banding together to help her battle breast cancer.

Cambria resident Melendrez, 55, was diagnosed about six weeks ago, according to daughter Nancy Melendrez. While the elder Melendrez does have health insurance at work (she’s been a busperson at Robin’s Restaurant for seven years), her daughter says there will be many other medical and other expenses not covered by the policy.

Angie Melendrez previously worked at The Brambles Dinner House. Her three children and seven grandchildren all live in Cambria.

A fundraiser to help pay medical expenses is set for noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at Lombardi’s Pasta & Pizza, 4158 Bridge St.

Tickets for the fundraiser meal, $13, include pasta, salad and garlic bread, to be enjoyed at the restaurant or served take-out style. A bake sale is scheduled, and a drawing will be held for a 32-inch plasma TV and other prizes.

Tickets are available from Nancy Melendrez or her siblings, Monica and Felipe Melendrez. Tickets will also be available at the door.

For details, or to donate to the raffle, call Nancy Melendrez at 835-7207.
