Central Coast Craft Beer Week kicks off Sunday

A recently formed consortium of local breweries is launching a weeklong celebration to promote the Central Coast’s growing craft beer industry.

The first Central Coast Craft Beer Week, which begins Sunday and runs until March 30, will kick off with at least 19 events, including a five-course brewer’s dinner at Creekside Brewing Co. in San Luis Obispo; a hands-on beer blending workshop at Libertine Pub in Morro Bay; and a cookies and beer pairing at Firestone Walker Brewing Co.’s Barrelworks in Buellton.

Other San Luis Obispo County breweries hosting events include BarrelHouse Brewing Co. of Paso Robles, Tap It Brewing Co. of San Luis Obispo and Cambria Beer Co.

“Central Coast breweries have been making a lot of noise at prestigious competitions such as the Great American Beer Festival,” said Jamie Smith, president of the Central Coast Brewers Consortium and vice president of marketing for Firestone Walker. The upcoming event "is all about experiencing fresh, world-class beers made right here in our backyard."

The consortium of 14 breweries and brewpubs in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties was established in late 2013.
