The Cal Poly baseball team continues to rise in the Division I rankings as pitcher Matt Imhof keeps reeling in conference and national honors.

The Mustangs (17-3) rose four spots to No. 7 in the Baseball America poll on Monday, the same day Imhof was named Big West Pitcher of the Week and one of six Collegiate Baseball Newspaper National Players of the Week for the third time this season.

The Mustangs are also seventh in the Collegiate Baseball Poll.

Cal Poly, which went 6-0 this week with series sweeps at home against Northern Illinois and Wagner, is also ranked No. 6 by Perfect Game, and No. 11 by the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll.

Imhof, a 6-foot-5 junior left-hander, recorded his third game of 14 or more strikeouts Friday, when he whiffed 14 Wagner batters over the course of eight innings in an 8-1 win.

The Fremont native was named the conference’s top pitcher last week, when he set a Cal Poly Division I record with 15 strikeouts in a win over Seattle. He also earned the honor after striking out 14 in a season-opening victory at home against then-No. 22 Kansas State.

Imhof is 4-1 on the season with 55 strikeouts in 35 innings and a 1.29 ERA.

The Mustangs, winners of 17 straight at Baggett Stadium, host Cal for a four-game series beginning Friday at 6 p.m. Imhof is expected to start the first game.
