Prep Roundup: Local golf teams compete at Oak Park Invitational

Conner Sandman shot a team-best 82 to lead the Arroyo Grande High boys golf team at the Oak Park Invitational played Monday at the par-71 Northridge Country Club.

The Eagles finished with a team score of 257, although full results from the 32-team competition were not available.

Jordan MacMurphey shot an 85 for Arroyo Grande. Jack Avrit, an independent with the Eagles who does not count toward their team score, shot an 82.

Atascadero shot 286, led by Ryan O’Connell’s 89.

Adam Burrola shot a 93 to lead Nipomo, which finished at 305.

Righetti tops Paso Robles in boys golf

Medalist Nick Zimkowski shot a 76 to lead the Warriors past the Bearcats, 434-476, at par-72 Rancho Maria Golf Course. 

Bailey Flickinger and Jeremy Woodruff both shot 92 for Paso Robles.

Arroyo Grande players honored

Led by a pair of girls water polo players, Arroyo Grande had four athletes named all-CIF-Southern Section in their respective divisions and sports.

Seniors Brooklyn VanderVeen and Melanie Popovich earned spots on the Division 3 list for girls water polo. 

Freshman Hosanna Cassidy garnered Division 5 honors in boys soccer, and junior Summer Soriano landed on the Division 3 girls soccer list. 

VanderVeen and Popovich were the top two scorers for the Eagles, combining for 57 goals as Arroyo Grande reached the Division 3 semifinals.

Cassidy and Soriano were both PAC 7 MVPs, albeit for very different reasons. 

Cassidy scored a team-high 16 goals, while Soriano anchored a league title defense that allowed just five goals in 12 PAC 7 matches.

Templeton sweeps in boys volleyball

Henri Cherry recorded 14 kills as the Templeton boys volleyball team defeated Paso Robles 25-14, 25-21, 25-13.

Brandon Bracy had six kills and six digs, and Jordan Sculley had five aces and three kills for Templeton (5-0).

Templeton drops boys tennis match

Chas Darrow won his three sets all by 6-0 scores, but the Templeton boys tennis fell 11-7 to Orcutt Academy in Templeton.

Daly Dernal won 6-0, 6-2, 2-6, and Matt Jardini won 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 in singles for the Eagles, who had all of their set wins in singles.
