The choice we have

Grover BeachMarch 17, 2014

I am a property owner served by the Five Cities Fire Authority. I have read several letters related to the “vote by mail” benefit assessment and wish to offer a differing perspective.

As we have all witnessed, local government has had to “stay the course” with diminishing percentages of our state tax revenue; Sacramento seems to feel as though it can better manage our affairs and keeps an increasing amount of locally generated revenues. Meanwhile, the demand for local government-provided services is increasing, generating a funding gap.

From my vantage point, the choice we have is to reduce service levels or bridge the funding gap to maintain the service level we expect. While none of us “wishes” to pay more for emergency services, the weekly cost is less than a cup of coffee, and will maintain both local control and a needed vehicle replacement fund. I’m voting yes and ask that my friends and neighbors do the same; please support the benefit assessment for the Five Cities Fire Authority.
