A 21-year-old woman was killed in a single-car accident late Friday night on Picachio Road in Cayucos.

According to the CHP, the woman was driving a 1999 Isuzu Amigo east on Picachio Road near Cayucos Creek Road about 11:35 p.m. when she lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle went off the edge of the road, overturned as it went down a steep embankment and hit several large rocks, CHP said.

The woman and her 25-year-old male passenger from Paso Robles were trapped in the car and had to be extricated by fire personnel.

The passenger was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center with minor to moderate injuries to his head and right thigh. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office will not release the driver’s name until next of kin has been notified.
