Small fire damages Sea Shanty restaurant in Cayucos

Firefighters were called to the popular Sea Shanty restaurant in Cayucos on Saturday afternoon to put out a small fire inside the front wall of the restaurant.

Firefighters from the Cayucos Fire Department, Cal Fire and the Morro Bay Fire Department all responded to a 1:42 p.m. call that smoke was coming out of the wall of the restaurant in the 200 block of South Ocean Avenue, authorities said.

Firefighters used a sledgehammer to make a 4-foot by 4-foot hole in the wall to extinguish the blaze, Cayucos Fire Chief Mike Minetti said.

The restaurant “is probably going to be closed for two or three days,” Minetti said. “It was just a very minor fire but it did enough damage that they’ll have to fix the interior and exterior wall before they can get it up and running again.”

Cal Fire is still investigating the cause of the fire. There were no injuries.
