Coast Union coaches announce winter sports awards

Coast Union boys basketball coach Tim May announced the awards for his varsity team this past season, and senior Angel Avina was given the MVP; senior Quentin Raethke landed “Offensive Player of the Year” award; and freshman Jez Lawson received the “Defensive Player of the Year” award.

Raethke was honored as MVP of the Coast Valley League; Avina was named to the 1st team All-League and Lawson and Logan Brandt made the 2nd team All-League.

The girl’s varsity basketball awards — given out by Coach Emilie Foster — included: senior Bianca Chavez (“Best Competitor”); junior Karely Ochoa (“Coach’s Award”); and junior Crystal Nunez (MVP).  Reagan Kniffen made first team All-League in the Coast Valley League, the only sophomore on the first team; Chavez and senior Vianey Mora each made second team All-League; and Nunez received Honorable Mention.

Coast Union’s program shared the League “Sportsmanship” award with Valley Christian Academy.

For the girl’s varsity soccer program, Coach Tamara Corbet announced these awards: junior Remy Corbet (MVP); senior Itzel Saavedra (“Leadership Award”); junior Patty Bucio (“Coach’s Award”); and junior Ana Carbajal (“Most Improved Player”).

The boy’s varsity soccer team — led by Coach Luis Plasencia — received the following awards: senior Juan Leonardo (MVP); sophomore Alexis Mireles (“Most Improved”); junior Pedro Leonardo (“Coach’s Award”); and junior Juan Carlos Mercado (“Coach’s Award”).
