SLO to hold forum on sales tax renewal

San Luis Obispo will hold a community forum to discuss the future of Measure Y, a half-cent sales tax increase passed by voters in 2006 set to expire in March 2015.

The forum is planned for 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 19 in the community room of the city library at 995 Palm St.

The city’s Local Revenue Measure Advisory Committee will discuss its recommendation to put a measure on the November ballot to renew the tax. An audit of last year’s Measure Y spending will be provided by the city.

Residents will be asked to help develop a contingency plan should the tax, which brings $6.5 million annually to city coffers, not be renewed.
