The county Board of Supervisors has proclaimed March 31 San Luis Obispo County Music Education Day in honor of Michael Nowak’s 30th anniversary season as music director for the San Luis Obispo Symphony.

The supervisors issued the proclamation Tuesday.

The proclamation commended Nowak and the symphony for supporting and improving school and community music programs, introducing nearly 1,600 people to classical music each year with free and specialty concerts, workshops and master classes.

The proclamation notes that music is basic to a complete education and beneficial to the community. March 31 also provides an opportunity to support and encourage teachers, students and all community members in musical endeavors, according to a county news release.
