Atascadero trustees delay vote on fate of 4th grade at Fine Arts Academy

A discussion about discontinuing fourth grade at Atascadero Fine Arts Academy will continue later this month.

At Tuesday’s Atascadero Unified School District Board of Trustees meeting, Principal Kirk Smith presented a proposal to close his school to fourth graders – thus making the Fine Arts Academy open only to fifth-, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders beginning in the 2014-2015 school year.

The subject, which generated some community response, was tabled Tuesday for further discussion, said Stacey Phillips, executive assistant to district Superintendent Deborah Bowers.

The board will address the issue again at its March 18 meeting at district headquarters, 5601 West Mall in Atascadero. For information, call 462-4200 or visit
