Prep Roundup: Walk-off softball win for Paso Robles over Morro Bay

Delaney Cline hit a game-winning double in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Paso Robles High softball team past visiting Morro Bay, 4-3, in the season opener for both teams Tuesday. 

The score was tied at 3 entering the bottom half of the inning, when Paso Robles’ McKayla Padgett walked and McKayla Stone hit a fly ball, advancing Padgett to second. Cline followed with her double, bringing Padgett home for the victory. 

Sophomore Dakota Rodriguez record 12 strikeouts and allowed five hits on the mound for Paso Robles. Chloe Kerns went 2 for 2 at the plate with a pair of RBI for the Bearcats.

The Pirates scored one run in the sixth and two in the top of the seventh after Paso Robles scored the first three runs. Marissa Tabares pitched four innings for Morro Bay, striking out five and allowing two hits. 

Nipomo 7, Arroyo Grande 4

Vangie Lopez went 3 for 3 with two RBI for the Titans (1-0), which also got a pair of RBI from both Ashley Ruiz and Hope Goodall.

Freshman Bri Sa captured the win after pitching the first four innings. Sa re-entered in the sixth to close the game, and had nine total strikeouts. 

Atascadero 19, Mission Prep 0

Cheyene Hufstetler and Kendal Moody both went 2 and 2, and McKenzi Etchison hit a home run for the Greyhounds (1-0). 

The winning pitcher was Sally Bowles, who had three strikeouts in two innings.

Nique Mack, Sara Wulff and Keara Blodget all had two hits for Atascadero. 

San Marcos 6, San Luis Obispo 0

Hanny Rios threw a no-hitter and hit a two-run home run in the first inning for San Marcos. Rios struck out 12, walked two and hit one batter.

Samantha Good pitched six innings for the Tigers (0-1), striking out seven while allowing five hits and two walks.

Templeton 3, Coast Union 0

Ellie Magnuson gave up one unearned run and one hit, and struck out seven for the Broncos (1-0) in the loss to the Eagles.

Bailey Clark and Olivia Zamora both had a hit for Coast Union. 

Statistics for Templeton were not provided.


Mission Prep 7, Coast Union 6

With the bases loaded in the bottom of walk that scored Scotty Creel and gave Scott Dodge a win in his coaching debut.

Mission Prep led 6-3 going into the top of the seventh, when Lane Sutherland and Tommy Howard both hit RBI singles for Coast Union (0-1) as part of a rally that tied the score at 6.

Hunter Lossee pitched the final four innings for the Royals, and also hit a two-run double. Freshman Bryce Fludderman started for Mission Prep, and pitched the first three innings. 

Coast Union walked a total of 10 batters and hit three more.   

San Luis Obispo 6, Templeton 2 

Jeremy Jess threw a complete game for the Tigers, striking out three and allowing four hits. 

Jess also went 2 for 2 with an RBI at the plate for San Luis Obispo (1-0). 

Spencer Howard hit a two-run triple in the sixth inning for the Eagles (0-1) that cut San Luis Obispo’s lead to 4-2. 

Santa Ynez 7, Arroyo Grande 2

Cole Ramey pitched three innings for the Eagles and gave up five runs. 

Robbie Silva hit two RBI singles for Arroyo Grande (0-1). 


Mission Prep 3, St. Joseph 1

The Royals (1-0) rebounded from an opening-set loss to top the Knights 17-25, 25-13, 29-27, 25-18.

Spencer Garner had 10 kills and seven digs for Mission Prep, and Jack Mooney had eight kills and seven aces.


San Luis Obispo 412, Morro Bay 510

The Tigers’ Kush Fikand shot a 78 to medal at the par-72 San Luis Obispo Country Club. 

San Luis Obispo’s Michael Daigle and Morro Bay’s Luka Bruno tied for second with an 8-over 80.

San Marcos 395, Arroyo Grande 399

Jack Avritt shot a 5-over 77 on the par-72 at Cypress Ridge to lead the Eagles (0-1). 

Medalist Neils Anderson from San Marcos shot a 75.


Paso Robles 13, Templeton 5

Evan Serpa helped the Bearcats move to 2-0 on the season, winning all three of his singles sets.

The Paso Robles’ doubles teams of Xavier Galsin and Juan Mijano, and Ryan Shepard and Warren Willis also swept the Eagles. 

Morro Bay 17, Coast Union 1

Richi Filippi, Andrew Stella and Marcel Scheiwiller all won their three singles sets for the Pirates (1-1).

The doubles teams of Ryan Morris and Simon Janzen, and Garret Blanchard and Nigel Archer also won their three sets.

Atascadero 12, Orcutt Academy 6

Brendan Adams won her three singles sets for the Greyhounds (1-0) as did the doubles team of Elias Jordan and Ross Schaefer. 

Three of the Tigers’ (0-1) five points came from Mason Hanson, who swept his singles sets.
