The Western United Dairymen will hold its annual convention Wednesday through Friday at the Embassy Suites Hotel in San Luis Obispo.

The gathering will feature workshops and panel discussions on a variety of issues facing the dairy industry. Former state Sen. Abel Maldonado will be keynote speaker on Thursday.

“Maldonado is well-known in California agriculture circles for his advocacy on behalf of the industry throughout this service in the California Legislature,” the group said in a news release announcing the event.

Western United Dairymen, based in Modesto, is the state’s largest dairy trade association. Its members represent more than 60 percent of the milk produced in the state.
