Morro Bay to begin search for permanent city manager

Morro Bay’s City Council has authorized its interim city manager, Ed Kreins, to begin conducting a search for a permanent city manager.

The council voted 5-0 Tuesday to authorize Kreins to conduct the search after deciding not to hire a recruitment firm. The city received several cost estimates from recruitment firms, ranging from $2,000 to $26,000 for the search.

Kreins said he has past experience at other local governments hiring city managers and also staffed an entire police department.

The new city manager will fill a vacancy left by Andrea Lueker, who resigned under pressure in December. Susan Slayton, the city’s administrative services director, was appointed acting city manager from Dec. 11 until Kreins took over the first week of February. Slayton has expressed interest in applying for the city manager job.
