Letter to the Editor

Worry is more like it

CayucosFebruary 24, 2014

In reference to the letter entitled “Why the bike hate” on Feb. 4: I am responding to the author’s assumption that “some people hate bicycles so much.” I think I speak for many motorists when I say I don’t hate them but I worry about hitting one of them.

I live in Cayucos and drive often to Morro Bay and Cayucos and have seen several near-accidents. Last year, I witnessed two serious accidents when turning off Highway l onto the exit into Morro Bay. Bikers can cross the highway there from a side road. This is a somewhat dangerous road even without bikers. Only two lanes and nar row sides; add bikers and it is challenging. I would encourage bikers to wear bright colors (not black), have red blinking lights on the back of seats and don’t ride side by side. It would be horrible to hit a rider and we all need to be more alert.
