Officials confirm that the driver in a single-vehicle crash on South Higuera Street on Friday has died of his injuries.

Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center spokesman Ron Yukelson confirmed Monday morning that Kyle Sheffield, 19, died over the weekend. The exact time and date of his death was not immediately known.

A witness at the scene of the crash said that Sheffield possibly suffered a seizure while heading south on South Higuera Street near the northbound Highway 101 onramp. His vehicle left the roadway and traveled some 400 yards, striking a fence and a tree before crashing down an embankment and into the San Luis Obispo Creek.

According to Cal Fire Battalion Chief Paul Lee, Sheffield sustained major injuries in the crash.
