Prep Playoffs Pairings: Atascadero boys receive No. 2 seed

PAC 7 champion Greyhounds to open CIF-Southern Section Division 3AA basketball playoffs at home vs. Leuzinger

The PAC 7 champion Atascadero High boys basketball team headlined the San Luis Obispo County participants when the CIF-Southern Section divisional playoff brackets were announced Sunday.

One of six boys teams to make the postseason, the Greyhounds earned the No. 2 seed in Division 3AA and will host Lawndale Leuzinger High on Wednesday, with the winner playing No. 15 San Marcos or South Pasadena in the second round. Games are scheduled for 7 p.m.

Mission Prep was awarded the No. 3 seed as an independent in Division 4AA and hosts Los Angeles Milken Community, also Wednesday. The winner advances to play No. 14 Morningside or Riverside Prep.

PAC 7 runner-up Arroyo Grande is the No. 11 seed in Division 2A and will host Cerritos in a first-round game Friday at 7. The winner will face either No. 6 Tustin or Don Lugo.

Templeton, the fourth-place finisher in the Los Padres League, travels to No. 11 Whittier Christian on Wednesday. Waiting is the winner between No. 6 Laguna Beach and Don Bosco.

Coast Valley League champion Coast Union is the No. 15 seed in Division 5AA and gets a bye into the second round to face No. 2 Westside on Friday. The winner advances to the quarterfinals.

In Division 6, Shandon heads to No. 14 Providence on Wednesday after a third-place CVL finish. The winner plays either No. 3 Joshua Springs or Bethel Baptist.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Eight county girls teams made the postseason, highlighted by Atascadero, Templeton and Coast Union.

The Greyhounds earned the No. 7 seed in Division 3A and will host South El Monte on Thursday. The winner advances to play either No. 10 Bellflower or Desert Hot Springs.

In Division 4AA, Templeton is the No. 12 seed, hosting Marymount on Thursday. Looming is No. 5 Whitney, which hosts Louisville.

Coast Union is the No. 6 seed in Division 6, hosting Shallhevet on Thursday. The winner will advance to face No. 8 Riverside Christian or Baker Valley.

In Division 2A, unseeded Arroyo Grande travels to No. 12 Hemet on Saturday. The winner plays No. 5 Simi Valley Royal or Claremont.

San Luis Obispo is the No. 14 seed in Division 3A but finds itself on the road to Lompoc at unseeded Cabrillo on Thursday. The winner will play No. 3 South Pasadena in the second round.

In Division 4AA, Morro Bay visits No. 11 St. Bernard on Thursday. If the Pirates advance, they’ll play the winner between No. 6 Marlborough and Costa Mesa.

Mission Prep travels to No. 8 Flintridge Prep in Division 4A on Thursday with the winner facing No. 9 Banning or Bassett.

In Division 6, Coastal Christian visits No. 6 Joshua Springs with a potential second-round meeting with No. 11 Trona or Lutheran.

GIRLS WATER POLO

PAC 7 champion Arroyo Grande received a bye and will host Louisville in the quarterfinals of the Division 3 playoffs Saturday. Games are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Atascadero travels to Rancho Cucamonga to take on Los Osos in a first-round game Wednesday. Paso Robles will have to play a wild-card game Tuesday at Charter Oak. The winner will travel to Harvard-Westlake for a first-round game Wednesday.

In Division 5, Morro Bay will visit Downey for a Tuesday wild-card game. If the Pirates win, they go back to Downey to face Warren on Wednesday.
