Gourmet bistro, market to open in Arroyo Grande Village

A new gourmet bistro and market is coming to the Village of Arroyo Grande.

Kari Ziegler, former owner of Gather Wine Bar, is opening Comfort Market in April. When construction is complete, the eatery, which will have indoor and outdoor seating, will occupy a 1,900-square-foot space at 116 W. Branch St. It is located in front of The SPOT Theatre and next door to Doc Burnstein’s Ice Cream Lab.

Ziegler said the specialty market and bistro will feature wine, craft beer, gourmet meats and cheeses, spices and other hard-to-find ingredients ideal to “make that perfect dish at home or pack up a picnic basket.”

She hopes Comfort Market will be a place where customers can grab convenient, family-style meals to take home or be inspired to sit with friends for a bite to eat or sip a glass of wine. Customers will be able to order food items online as well at www.comfortmkt.com.

The Village of Arroyo Grande now has more dining options, but Ziegler sees Comfort Market as complementing and building on what’s already available. The Village, she said, needs the everyday foot traffic.

“We’ve got a pizza place, burger places and we’ve got a breakfast place,” she said. “We wanted to augment that, not compete with that.”

Ziegler plans to hire five to 10 employees. She declined to disclose financial details of the new business venture.
