Sports Roundup: Another Cal Poly-UC Irvine game picked up by ESPNU

Cal Poly’s men’s basketball game at 8 p.m. March 1 at UC Irvine has been picked up by ESPNU.

The teams’ first meeting this season Feb. 1 also was on ESPNU, with the visiting Anteaters rolling past the Mustangs, 64-50.

Mustangs third in Cal State Northridge golf tourney

The Cal Poly women’s golf team sits No. 3 out of eight teams after Monday’s play at the Matador Invitational hosted by Cal State Northridge in Simi Valley.

The Mustangs played two rounds and ended the day with a 41-over-par 617 between their four golfers.

Taylor Yoshitake shot a 6-over par 150 total on the day. Yoshitake is tied for sixth in the individual standings and six strokes back of USC’s Victoria Morgan, and Cal State Northridge’s Clariss Guce and Arinda Bhakaraka, who are tied for first.

Martz to speak at local golf fundraiser

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host a charitable golf tournament, silent auction and dinner featuring a keynote speech from former NFL head coach Mike Martz on March 8 at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande.

Registration for the tournament begins at 11 a.m. March 8, followed by a noon shotgun start with a scramble format. The silent auction and dinner is set to begin at 5 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will go to the area FCA, which benefits local high schools.
