Road to extinction

San Luis ObispoFebruary 10, 2014

Many thanks to John Lindsey for his Feb. 2 column in which he discussed the very warm winter we’ve been having and the cause of San Luis Obispo’s unprecedented and record setting 91-degree day Jan. 16, (hottest city in the nation). I am grateful for his repeated willingness to report the scientific truth about the connection between global warming and our current weather pattern.

The U.N.’s recently released climate draft report issued a dire warning that continued inaction in battling climate change is not an option. As reported, “Another 15 years of failure to limit carbon emissions could make the problem virtually impossible to solve with current technologies.” It’s way past time for our legislators to require a price on carbon.

The United States must become the international leader in lowering carbon emissions in order to slow the pace of global warming. We must insist that our representatives work with urgent speed or we may well be on our way to becoming an extinct species on planet Earth.
