Letter to the Editor

Take the long view

Paso RoblesFebruary 10, 2014

I have done my part in water conservation by installing low-flow toilets, etc. I read that 17 cities and towns in Central California will soon be out of water. This is a tragic and disturbing situation that could have been avoided with common-sense planning before the drought began.

Build large underground reservoirs to catch rain runoff and overflow from lakes. Build coastal desalination plants at every coastal city along the Central Coast and pump excess water to inland towns that need it.

I know some bureaucrats will see this as costly and time-consuming, but in the long run it will save the cattle and farming industry in the Central Coast.
