A 22-year-old San Luis Obispo man was killed when he was hit by a car early Saturday on South Higuera Street near Los Osos Valley Road.

Officers responded to a report of the collision at about 4:53 a.m., said Sgt. Jeff Booth of the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

The driver of the vehicle, a 25-year-old Arroyo Grande resident, was driving southbound on Higuera from Los Osos Valley Road and hit the pedestrian, who was in the roadway, Booth said.

Officers performed CPR on the pedestrian until fire department personnel arrived and took over medical treatment. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Booth said. Authorities are not releasing the name of the victim, pending notification of family.

Police do not believe that alcohol or drugs were a factor in why the driver hit the pedestrian, Booth said.
