Diablo Canyon's Unit 2 resumes service after electrical flashover

Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant’s Unit 2 was returned to service Saturday after an electrical problem on Sunday.

The unit automatically went offline Sunday after a flashover, or electrical arc, occurred on a lightning arrestor on the non-nuclear side of the plant, a PG&E news release said.

The lightning arrestor has been replaced and unit 2 is once again providing electricity to the state’s power grid, according to the release. PG&E said it notified the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, as well as local and state officials of the disturbance when it occurred.

Unit 1 continues to operate at full power.
