Jeff Bridges, the Academy Award-winning actor who fronts a band on the side, will return to San Luis Obispo this month for a performance at the Fremont Theatre.

Bridges, who usually graces the big screen at the historic venue, will bring his band The Abiders to town less than two weeks before the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival kicks off there. The show will take place Friday, Feb. 21, at 6:30 p.m.

While Bridges is mostly known for his roles in films that include “The Big Lebowski,” “The Last Picture Show” and “The Fisher King,” he began studying piano at an early age. His musical abilities were critically acclaimed during the film “Crazy Heart,” in which he portrayed a washed-up country singer on the verge of a comeback.

Bridges last performed music in San Luis Obispo in August 2012, when he played to two sold-out shows at SLO Brew. His set list included songs from “Crazy Heart” and “Lookin' Out My Back Door” — a Creedence Clearwater Revival song used in the film “The Big Lebowski.”

Tickets for the reserved seating event are $40 in advance and $57 at the door. For more information, call SLO Brew at 543-1843.
