Climate plan

AtascaderoFebruary 5, 2014

After much debate and numerous changes to the original Climate Action Plan, the Atascadero City Council approved a plan that had been altered from the original plan. Note that the original plan had previously been heard by the seven-member Planning Commission at four public hearings prior to being submitted to the City Council and had the approval of staff.

The plan was prepared by a company that had prepared similar reports for other jurisdictions in the state and at a cost of $70,000. In Sunday’s Tribune editorial it was noted that the council did not support the original plan. Prior to voting for acceptance of a Climate Action Plan, the mayor suggested that there would be three options to vote on to address the acceptance of a plan. One of those options was to accept the original plan. With that information I made a motion to accept the original plan as submitted although there was no second from any of the four other council members.
