Warming pause

Grover BeachFebruary 5, 2014

In response to the article by John Lindsey on Feb. 2 (“January was warmest on record locally”), I would like to point out two errors in Mr. Lindsey’s conclusion.

He writes “overall the long-term temperature trend continues to rise.” What Mr. Lindsey fails to mention is the now 17-year pause in warming, reported in Reason magazine and by NPR, and acknowledged by experts like Judith Curry and Phil Jones. Mr. Lindsey continues that the great majority of experts “blame the ever-increasing amounts of man-made carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.” In fact, carbon dioxide has increased by 10 percent since 1995 with no corresponding temperature increase.

The information is out there, and when sources like Nature, The Economist, Reason and NPR all agree, it’s time to open one’s mind, and cast aside one’s preconceived notions about what one “knows.”
