Give me a break: Any responsible host for an adult party with the possibility of 200 guests would have a guest list completed at some point before the party begins. I know I would. Twenty-four hours seems reasonable, even if not 100 percent accurate. You are really just kowtowing to an idiosyncratic party culture where a list might reduce the number of guests to a manageable number. Would that be less fun?

On the four-hour party limit, the ban on drinking games and so forth: Why are these unenforceable? It’s more like this: Nobody in this idiosyncratic party culture really wants to take that responsibility. So, we are back to square one: neighbors relying on public safety personnel to enforce reasonable limits.

Unfortunately, The Tribune has undermined the university administrators and student leaders who took responsible steps to mitigate existing risky student behavior. You have enabled hypocritical high-risk alcohol drinkers who tell us we should treat them like responsible adults but really prefer to act like rebellious children. You both hid behind “it’s unenforceable.”

The Tribune is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
