SLO County weather forecast for the week of Jan. 27

Special to The TribuneJanuary 26, 2014

Here is this week’s weather forecast by PG&E meteorologist John Lindsey.

Weather report

A pattern of gentle to moderate (8- to 18-mph) Santa Lucia (northeasterly) winds will develop during the night and morning hours, shifting out of the northwest and increasing to 19 to 31 mph during the afternoon hours. This pattern will continue through Wednesday and produce mostly clear skies with above-normal temperatures.

Today’s models are indicating that subtropical flow will increase Wednesday night into Thursday as a cold front moves through San Luis Obispo County. This system is expected to produce between 0.05 and 0.33 inches of rain on Thursday.

Snow levels will start out rather high, at around 7,500 feet, before lowering Thursday to near 4,500 feet when the cold front passes. A foot of new snow is expected above
5,500 feet, with more than 2 feet possible along the crest, as it appears this will be the first good storm for the Sierra since December 2012.

Fair and dry weather with cooler temperatures is forecast Friday through the weekend.
