In wrestling, Atascadero stays perfect in PAC 7 duals with win over Righetti

Courtney Elterman scored an unassisted goal with less than 10 minutes remaining to lift the Templeton High girls soccer team past Coast Union, 1-0, on Tuesday.

Sammy Schmidt made six saves in net for the Eagles (5-12), while Kaelani Ribeira and Cynthia Cadena  split time in goal for the Broncos (5-11), registering three and nine saves, respectively.

Cabrillo 3, Morro Bay 2

The Pirates scored twice in the final eight minutes of the match to pull within one, but ended up falling short to the Conquistadores. 

Emma Hotaling had a goal and an assist, and Mariah Callahan also scored for Morro Bay (7-8-3, 2-2-2 Los Padres League).

Goalie Madelynn Martinez recorded nine saves for the Pirates. 

BOYS SOCCER

Santa Ynez 4, Nipomo 1

Mike Arevalo scored the lone goal for the Titans (6-13, 1-5 LPL).

Johann Ayala made 10 saves for Nipomo, including a pair of stops on penalty kicks.

Coast Union 3, Templeton 2

Jorge Renteria scored the go-ahead goal for Coast Union (5-10). 

Oscar Catalon had the other two goals for the Broncos. 

Keeper Alexis Mirelde made five saves for Coast Union. 

Cabrillo 4, Morro Bay 0

Goalkeeper Oscar Loeza recorded six saves for the Pirates (3-14, 1-5 LPL). 

BOYS WRESTLING

Atascadero 43, Righetti 28

The Greyhounds (3-0 PAC 7) got six pins to help stay undefeated in league duals.

Cruz Mendoza (106 pounds), Nick Ducasse (160), Ryan Lombardi (170), CJ Cooper (182), Jordan Council (220) and Tyler West (Heavyweight) all recorded falls. 

Carson Block also earned an 8-0 major decision at 195 pounds.

Cabrillo 42, Morro Bay 36

Trajan Beecham pinned James Dean in the second period in the 160-pound weight class for the Pirates.

Morro Bay (0-3) pinned all but one of the Cabrillo wrestlers, but also gave up five forfeits. 

The Pirates’ Chris Maez won his 182-pound bout over Colin Babauta, who was previously unbeaten in league matches.

Freshman Luis Alvarez fell to Cabrillo’s Vincent Rodriguez in the 145-pound weight class.

GIRLS WATER POLO

Paso Robles 7,San Luis Obispo 2

Laileha Vermy scored four goals, including three in the fourth quarter, to lead the Bearcats (7-9, 3-2 PAC 7).

Shannon Rees notched two goals, and Lauren Reed also scored for Paso Robles, which got 11 saves from goalkeeper Kelsey Lewis.

Addie Foster and Mia Rolph scored for the Tigers.

Righetti 13, Atascadero 5

Courtney McCarthy scored a pair of goals in the loss for the Greyhounds (9-6, 2-2 PAC 7). 

Kylie Ferree, Hannah Livengood and goalkeeper Lauren Giggy also scored for Atascadero. Giggy made 11 saves.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Coast Union 45, Cuyama Valley 41

Vianey Mora’s free throw tied the score with four minutes to go, and Ahtziri Mora’s field goal late gave Coast Union (4-1 Coast Valley League) the lead for good. 

Ahtziri Mora had a team-high 12 points for the Broncos, and Reagan Kniffen scored eight.   

Coastal Christian 41, Shandon 19

Amy Arnold led the Conquerors with 16 points in their victory over the Outlaws. 

Arnold also grabbed nine rebounds and had three steals for Coastal Christian (3-11, 2-3 CVL). 

Roni Garrison scored 12 points and recorded 14 rebounds and six blocks for the Conquerors.
