College Roundup: Cal Poly's Kastl takes second at wrestling tourney

Cal Poly junior wrestler Dominic Kastl claimed second place at 174 pounds in the Shorty Hitchcock Open hosted by Millersville University on Sunday.

Kastl won his first three bouts by technical fall, decision and major decision before losing an 11-8 decision to Virginia Tech’s Zach Epperly in the 174-pound final.

Cal Poly’s Colton Schilling (133) split his four matches, and the Mustangs’ Blake Kastl (149) won three of five matches while wrestling unattached.

Mustangs shine in singles at Cal event

Cal Poly senior Kathryn Webb, junior Bryn Bacharach and freshman Emily Gibbens each won in singles play at the Cal Winter Invitational.

Cal Poly competed in singles against Fresno State, with Webb downing Anneka Watts 6-3, 6-2, Bacharach topping Tanya Murtagh 7-6 (4), 6-3, 1-0 (4) and Gibbens beating Aishwarya Agrawal 6-0, 6-2.
