Debris found near plane crash site off Oceano

Tribune staff reportJanuary 19, 2014

Members of the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team reported finding a small, thin piece of fiberglass during a search for wreckage from a plane crash off the coast near Oceano.

The fiberglass was “consistent with the aircraft,” sheriff’s spokesman Tony Cipolla said in a news release.

Divers have been using tools including sonar and an underwater camera in an attempt to locate the plane, which went down in the ocean Tuesday.

Conditions on the ocean floor are becoming increasingly unsafe for divers, Cipolla said.
