More options, please

ClovisJanuary 19, 2014

I’m a student studying life science. I plan to continue my education at Cal Poly because I want to become a science teacher. My hobbies include reading, listening to music, watching TV and cooking.

I happen to identify as agender (which means that I don’t feel that I have a gender). As for my sexual orientation, I label myself as queer. On my Facebook account, I cannot put “agender” in the gender spot of the “Basic Info” portion of my profile. I cannot put “queer” in the “interested in” spot. I, and many others, want to change that. So, I’ve made a petition, asking Facebook to have all gender identities and sexual orientations as options in the appropriate parts of everybody’s profile.

I hope Facebook will make these changes. I believe it would force them to recognize that there aren’t only two genders and a couple of sexual orientations. It would also be a sign of respect to diversity.
