Rally falls short for Mission Prep girls basketball team

Late free throws lift Santa Clara of Oxnard to 54-52 victory over Royals

Noelle Laird made two free throws to tie the Mission Prep girls basketball game against Santa Clara of Oxnard with five seconds left on the clock Saturday, but the Saints subsequently made two free throws to beat the Royals, 54-52.

Mission Prep (9-7) rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit before falling short in the final seconds.

I’raya Smith led the Royals with 16 points, Jacqueline San Jule had 10, and Laird and Taylor Neal each added seven points.

Faith Williams led Santa Clara, which sank seven 3-pointers, with 14 points, and Sara Reynoso added 13.
